Small Business Flight School was a business education program from Donald Miller and Business Made Simple. This 2023 episode looked at how it was put together and what it asked of the owners who enrolled in it.
The program was built around a six-month video series — twenty-two sessions of roughly fifteen to twenty-five minutes, delivered by email — organized around a written growth plan it called a Flight Plan. That plan covered six areas of a business: leadership, sales, marketing, products, overhead and operations, and cash flow.
Around the videos sat the live parts. A weekly question-and-answer call put members in front of Business Made Simple coaches alongside other owners working through the same material, a private member community ran between the calls, and each quarter Donald Miller led a session on applying the Flight Plan. Members were also offered discounted rates to StoryBrand and Business Made Simple events.
The argument the program made for itself was that structure plus live support removes the bottlenecks holding a business back more reliably than self-paced video does on its own.
