Ikigai is a concept from Japanese culture that refers to the sense of purpose or fulfillment one feels. The concept is often represented visually in a diagram that has four intersecting circles representing:
- What you love.
- What you are good at.
- What the world needs.
- What you can be paid for.
The intersection of these four circles is where your ikigai lies. It is believed that finding your ikigai can lead to a more fulfilling and satisfying life.
Finding your zone of excellence in life is a process of self-discovery and exploration. Here are a few steps you can take to help you find your zone of excellence:
- Reflect on your passions and interests: What do you love to do? What are you naturally drawn to? These are often indicators of what you may excel at.
- Identify your strengths and skills: What are you good at? What skills do you possess that others admire?
- Consider what the world needs: What kind of problems or needs are there in the world that you feel passionate about addressing?
- Think about what you can be paid for: How can you monetize your passions, strengths, and skills?
- Experiment and take action: Try out different things and see what resonates with you. Take small steps towards your goal and adjust as you go.
Once you have a better understanding of your passions, strengths, skills, and the world needs, you can start to identify opportunities where you can excel and make a difference.
Be intentional!
